Frequently asked Questions

*What should I send for snack?

Please send ONE food item and ONE drink for snack. Please label which food should be eaten at snack time vs. lunch time. Please remember that Wilson School is a nut-controlled building.

*How can my child order lunch?

If your child will be ordering lunch, you may pay online. Directions for submitting payment online were sent home at the start of the year inside your car placard for pick-up. If you choose to send money to school, please send any lunch money in a sealed envelope with your child's name.

Anytime your child orders lunch we must know from someone at home what the child will be ordering. Please send a small note (post-it will do!) with your child's name AND lunch choice in the take-home folder. If you would rather, another option is to send the monthly menu with your child's name and lunch selections circled for the days your child will be purchasing lunch.

Lunch menus can be found on the district website.

*What should I do with the take-home folder?

Please be sure to check, clear and pack your child's take-home folder every day because it is one of our main ways of daily correspondence. Feel free to send notes to school in the folder, as well.

*What is the best way to get in touch with the teacher?

If you need to get in touch with me, please send a note with your child (via the take-home folder) or email me at cwilson@summit.k12.nj.us. I will get back to you as soon as possible.

*Is there homework in kindergarten?

- Please read to or with your child for a minimum of 20 minutes each night. It is important for children to engage with text daily. BOOK BAGS will be sent home beginning sometime in the fall.

- We will also have access to a reading program online called Raz-Kids. More information to follow, including personal student log-ins.

*What if my child is going home with a friend or a different adult?

If your child is going to be leaving school in a different way than usual, please send me a note via the take-home folder. I must have a signed note from you to allow the change in dismissal. If you choose to email, please send the information the day before the change in dismissal.

*Please remind me about birthday celebrations...

We celebrate birthdays by inviting parents or a different special guest (i.e. other family members) to our classroom to share a birthday book with our class. As a student's birthday nears, please email me to set up a day and time for the birthday reading. Please bring a book of your choice with you, and plan to spend between 10-15 minutes with us in our classroom. If it is not possible for anyone to come in and read, please send in the birthday book of your child's choice, and I will gladly read it in honor of his or her birthday.

Due to allergies, we do NOT allow birthday snacks of any kind in our classroom. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

*Is food allowed at the class parties?

Yes. The parents organizing the parties may bring in food to eat for the class parties. All food choices must be submitted to Mrs. Cattano (our school nurse) ONE WEEK before the party to ensure the food is safe for all students with allergies.
